Dr. Tyre attended Western Kentucky University where he received degrees in Psychology and Biology in 1985. His dental degree was received from the University of Louisville in 1990. After a brief stay in a private office, Dr. Tyre joined the United States Navy as a dental officer in late 1990.
While in the navy, Dr. Tyre had an interesting career. He received certification in Advanced Trauma and Cardiac Life support. Fewer than 15% of the military's dentist do both. He served in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf and Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. Both missions were in combat situations and support.
After his military career, Dr. Tyre returned home to the Louisville Area and took over his current practice from Dr. James Douglas. He later added a practice from Dr. Cliff Hauenstein. Each of them had 40 years experience and had graduated from U of L in the 1950's. Dr. Tyre takes an average of 7 times the required amount of continuing education required by KY law (105 hours per year vs. the 15 needed).
He has received a Fellowship Award from the Academy of General Dentistry for his advanced education. He received his sedation training from a division St. John's University while training at a trauma center in Patterson NJ in 2000. While Dr. Tyre has multiple hours of various training, he has also completed the curriculum at the Dawson Center for Advanced studies in St. Petersburg FL. He has trained for advanced prosthetics in Canada and the US. Dr. Tyre has taught multiple seminars, been a public speaker on a variety of topics and spent 5 years helping teach customer service to dental offices across the country for a national group.
His personal interests include saltwater fishing, weight training, marksmanship, golf, whitewater rafting, exotic fish, golf, and his baby girls Useless and Chanel (Pekinese).
